Privacy Policy
Trux is a racing game for children, published by Campbell Venture Studios, LLC. This page explains what the app keeps, what it sends, and why.
The short version
- There are no ads, no analytics, and no tracking. We do not sell or share data for advertising.
- Most of what the app knows stays on the device.
- There are no accounts to sign up for. Online play uses a random guest ID.
- A child's photo and typed name never go online. Online, each player uses a name from a list.
What stays on the device
The app saves these on the device. The exceptions are listed below:
- The age range picked when the app starts (2 to 4, 5 to 7, or 8 and up). It sets the world and the controls. When a player aged 8 and up joins Quick Play, the app tells the server the range so the server can check it; the server does not keep it.
- The racer name the child types in the garage.
- The avatar: a drawn picture, or a photo taken with the camera. The camera is used only to take this photo. The photo is kept small (256 by 256 pixels). The photo goes only to friends in a Near me game (see below).
- The history of arena battles and cups, the coin balance, owned shop items, and Drift Run best distances and best runs.
- Settings, such as sound on or off.
Deleting the app deletes all of this.
The grown-ups area
Purchases and other settings for parents are behind a question that a young child cannot answer (a multiplication question with a number pad).
What goes to our server
The app talks to our server only when the device is online. It sends:
- A guest ID. The app makes a random guest account the first time it goes online. It has no email, phone number, or password.
- The online name: a name the child picks from a list in the app, such as "Turbo Tiger". The server takes only names from this list, so it never gets the name the child types.
- The racer profile: a color and a vehicle.
- Race results: the track, the place, the time, and the vehicle, for the history screen.
- Online races and battles: while a game runs, the online name, color, vehicle, drawn avatar, and the car's position go to the other players in that game. Games have a 4-letter code that friends share. The server refuses a photo.
- Quick Play (ages 8 and up): the server puts players who are waiting into the same game, with computer racers in empty places. While a player waits, the server keeps the guest ID, the game type, and the times they joined and last checked in. In the game, other players see only the online name, color, vehicle, drawn avatar, and the car's position. There is no chat, no friend list, and no profile of other players. The server deletes the waiting record and the game record when the game ends, and after 2 hours at most.
- Drift Run challenges: the online name, color, vehicle, drawn avatar, the distance, and the run's button presses (so friends can race against a ghost of the run). A challenge and its runs are deleted 24 hours after it was made.
- Purchases. Apple takes the payment. We never see a name, an email, or card details. After a purchase, the app sends Apple's signed receipt so the server can check it. We keep the product, Apple's transaction ID, and when we checked it, linked to the guest ID. The app also gives Apple a random token made from the guest ID, so the purchase counts for the right player.
- Technical logs. Like any server, ours records requests (the time, the call, and the network address) to keep the service working and to stop abuse. We do not use them to build a profile of anyone.
Playing with friends nearby
Games in the same room use Apple's peer-to-peer networking, with no internet and no server. The devices share the typed racer name, color, vehicle, avatar, and car positions. For races, the avatar can be the photo the child picked. It goes only to the devices in the game and is not kept after it.
Who else gets data
- Apple, for purchases, under Apple's own privacy policy.
- Our hosting provider, which runs the server for us and may not use the data for anything else.
Nobody else. There are no advertising, analytics, or social media services in the app.
Children
Trux is made for children. We collect only what the app needs to work, listed above. We do not ask for a child's real name, email, phone number, or location. Photos and typed names can go to nearby players in a Near me game. They never go to our server. Parents can ask us to delete the data on our server.
How long we keep data
- Drift Run challenges and their runs: 24 hours.
- Quick Play waiting and game records: until the game ends, and 2 hours at most.
- The guest ID, racer profile, race results, and purchase records: until you ask us to delete them.
- Online names in a running race or battle: until the game ends.
Deleting data
To delete the current online account and its server data, open the Garage, tap Grown-ups, answer the question, and select Delete online account. Confirm the deletion. The app shows a confirmation when the server completes it. Online play stays off until a parent enables it again. Saved progress, photos, and Apple purchases stay on the device. Deleting the app removes its local data. For an older Player ID whose session has expired, email the ID to [email protected]. We complete these support requests within 30 days and confirm when they are done.
Changes
If the app starts collecting something new, we update this page and the date at the top before the update ships.
